The Process

Moodboard & Research
This printed booklet was designed in InDesign and was very heavily research driven. It all started with choosing ten or more topics within a single subject, so I chose Australia and mammals because I feel like not many people know about them and most of them are endangered or unknown to the world. My process started with choosing specific animals and a color palette that fits with the mood/theme of the outback. Then, typefaces for body copy/titles which are legible on a small booklet design. Finally, I found some inspiration within other field guide designs that combined heavy text and images for added interest. My goal was to create an informational guide with quality pictures, easy legibility, consistent tone and a wholesome feel by using stock illustrations as an added touch. My challenges were learning InDesign, utilizing layout space for a small book in mind and figuring out how to incorporate images with text. My biggest concern was my dark body copy, but after printing it came out better than expected! Next time I definitely intend to use more pictures, less text and make it more visually appealing.
